Analyst Gym vs DataCamp
DataCamp teaches the tools: SQL, Python, R, Excel, Power BI and Tableau, with short videos and then coding exercises in your browser.
Analyst Gym doesn't teach tools. Its courses teach the judgment around the code: reading the real request, choosing a metric you can stand behind, checking AI's work. A five-minute daily drill gives you regular practice with feedback. If you're still learning the tools, DataCamp is the place to start. If you're past that and want to stand out for your judgment, that's what Analyst Gym is for.

Which one should you pick?
Pick DataCamp if
- You're new to data and need SQL, Python or Excel first. If you're working toward your first analyst role, start there.
- You want a certification with a timed exam and a practical exam behind it.[12]
- You need one tool, like Power BI or Tableau, for a job soon.[7]
- Your employer is buying seats and wants to track the team's progress.[1]
Pick Analyst Gym if
- You can already do the technical work and want to get better at the decisions around it.
- You want courses on the skills beyond the code: reading the real request, choosing a metric you can stand behind, checking AI's work.
- You're getting ready for case questions like "A metric dropped. What do you check first?"
- You want regular practice with feedback, five minutes a day.
Use both if
You're learning the tools on DataCamp and want daily practice at what to do with the results. The drill takes five minutes and it's free, so it fits around a course without replacing it.
Courses on everything beyond the code
Plenty of places teach the tools. Analyst Gym is built for everything beyond the code: the judgment that separates a decent analyst from a great one.
The courses teach the concepts, one idea at a time, on topics that rarely get a whole course anywhere else. The daily drill is where you keep practicing them, with feedback on every call.
We built it to be the best place to grow these skills: the ones that set you apart from other candidates and peers, and help you make more impact, find more valuable insights and grow your career faster.

What DataCamp does better
- Breadth: DataCamp lists 790+ courses across SQL, Python, R, BI tools and AI.[1]
- Hands-on coding practice in the browser, with nothing to install.[1][10]
- Certifications with real exams, timed and practical, valid for 2 years.[12][13]
- CPE credits on 75+ courses, for accountants and finance analysts who need them.[14]
- Team plans, so a manager can manage seats and track the team's progress.[1]
Where they differ
What you practice
A tool skill usually has a right answer you can check: the query runs and returns the right rows, or it doesn't. That makes it a good fit for short interactive exercises, which is how DataCamp teaches it.[10]
Judgment works differently. Two good analysts can reasonably disagree, and what makes you better is seeing the reasoning behind the strongest call and noticing when you were sure and wrong. So an Analyst Gym drill shows you that reasoning once you've made your call, and some formats ask how sure you are first.
DataCamp does cover some of this ground. AI for Data Analysts (4 hours) teaches checking AI output before it reaches leadership, Data Communication Concepts (3 hours) covers presenting to stakeholders, and there's a Data Storytelling track (about 6 hours). If you're already on DataCamp, those are worth doing. Analyst Gym's drills give you a new case every day.[18][19][20]
What Analyst Gym doesn't do
Analyst Gym doesn't:
- Teach SQL, Python, Excel or any other tool.
- Offer a big library. There are three courses today.
- Give a certification with an exam behind it.
- Offer CPE credits.
- Run live classes or a community forum.
- Have portfolio projects.
- Have a long track record. Daily drills started in August 2026.
