Common questions

Getting started

  • What is Analyst Gym?

A daily judgment drill for data analysts. Each day you get one short session built around a real decision, not a syntax quiz. It takes about two minutes.

  • What does it cost?

    Nothing! Analyst Gym is free.

  • How do I sign in?

With a magic link sent to your email, or with Google. There is no password to remember.

  • Do I need to know SQL?

No. The drills are about judgment: what to check, what a number is worth, and what you would tell a stakeholder. This is not a SQL tutorial site.

How drills work

  • How long does a drill take?

About two minutes. One session, one decision, then the reveal.

  • Are there different kinds of drill?

Yes, four. Lesson walks you through multiple steps and corrects you as you go. Rapid Fire is twelve short judgment calls with the teaching saved for the end. Currency gives you a budget of hours to buy information before you commit. The Rule asks you to write a definition and then watch it meet messy records. We rotate through these formats (and new topics within each format!) each day.

  • Is Rapid Fire timed?

No. There is no clock, so take the moment you need on each call. You are scored on accuracy, not speed.

  • Why does it ask how sure I am?

Because being confidently wrong is the expensive mistake. Rating your confidence turns each answer into two pieces of information: whether you were right, and whether you knew. At the end of a session you get a read on how well those two lined up.

  • Can I redo a drill?

No. One drill a day, one attempt at it. The point is to commit to an answer the way you would at work, rather than retrying until it is right. It's okay to get a question wrong; the goal is to learn from the experience.

  • What if I get it wrong?

You get the reasoning, which is the part worth keeping. A miss still counts as a rep.

Your streak and progress

  • How does the streak work?

It counts the days in a row you showed up. Getting the answer wrong costs you nothing, the rep is what counts. Skip a day and the count starts over.

  • When does the day roll over?

At midnight Eastern time. A new drill is waiting for you then.

  • What happens if I skip a day?

Come back and pick it up. The drill you missed does not stay open, but nothing stops you from starting a new run.

Account

  • How do I change my name or email preferences?

Everything lives under Account: your profile, notifications, appearance, and linked sign-in methods.

    Open your account settings
  • How do I stop getting emails?

Open the Notification settings in your Account. You can turn off any single type of email or switch off email from us entirely, and it takes effect right away. You do not need to ask us.

    Choose which emails you get
  • Can I use both Google and email sign-in?

Yes. You can link both to the same account under Account, then use whichever you prefer.

  • How do I delete my account?

In your Account, use the "Delete account" section. It removes your account, your drill history, and your streak. Sign-in stops working immediately, and it cannot be undone.

  • Can I get a copy of my data?

Yes. Your Account settings page has an option to export everything we hold about you as a single JSON file, with no need to ask us for it.

  • How do I correct something in my account?

Most of it you can edit yourself in your Account area. For anything you cannot change there, email support@analystgym.com and we will sort it out.

  • Do you sell my data?

No. The full detail is in the privacy policy.
