A daily analytics drill to keep your skills sharp.

AI tools are very good at execution: queries, data transformation, crunching numbers. You’re still responsible for the analytical thinking and judgment.

Do today’s drill, then every past one. Free.

Practice for free

About five minutes per drill.

Not another SQL quiz.

Want to get better at SQL? There are 100+ apps for that.

Analyst Gym trains what happens after the query runs: the calls you make with the numbers in front of you.

Tools handle

  • Writing the query
  • Cleaning and joining the data
  • Crunching the numbers
  • Drawing the chart

You still own

  • Deciding what to check first
  • Spotting a number that can't be right
  • Knowing when you've seen enough
  • Telling a stakeholder what it means

How a drill works.

No syntax and no code to write. Here’s the shape of a drill.

  1. A real decision

A situation you're likely to meet at work: a metric moved, a stakeholder wants a number, a definition has to hold up. You make the call.

  2. Say how sure you are

On most drills, rate your confidence before you submit. Being confidently wrong is the expensive mistake, so it's worth calibrating.

  3. See the reasoning

Then the full explanation: why the strongest answer holds up, and where your thinking could be sharper.

Four drill types.

The daily drill rotates through four types, and each one trains something different.

  • Lesson

Multiple steps, coached one at a time, corrected as you go.

Trains: How to read a situation carefully before you commit to an answer.

  • Rapid Fire

12 short judgment calls. No clock; you're scored on accuracy, not speed.

    Trains: Fast pattern recognition.

  • Currency

Practice spending a limited budget. Commit to the activities you think will resolve the data question the fastest.

Trains: Knowing which investigations are worth your time, and when you're close enough to an answer to stop investigating.

  • Scenario

One stakeholder, one situation, unfolding over several moves. Each choice changes where you stand with them, tracked on a scale from 0 to 100.

Trains: Seeing how today's easy answer becomes tomorrow's hard conversation.

Not just today’s drill.

Every past drill is open and free. Filter by type, skill or difficulty and take as many reps as you want.

Start with today’s, then work back through the archive on whatever you want to get better at.

See where your judgment is strong.

Your skill profile shows which judgment skills are solid and which need more reps, built from the drills you’ve done. The archive filters by skill, so you know where to go next.

Showing up is a win.

Finish a drill and your streak grows, right or wrong.

Getting it wrong isn’t a setback. It’s how the reps work.

Questions.

The short answers. More on the support page.

  • Is it free?

Yes. Today's drill and every past drill are free.

  • How long does a drill take?

    About five minutes each.

  • Will it teach me SQL or Python?

No, and that's on purpose. There are plenty of great places to learn the code. This is for everything around it: framing the request, picking the metric, judging the evidence, and landing the decision with the people who asked.

  • Do I need an account?

Yes, a free one, so your streak and skill profile can follow you. Sign in with Google or a link sent to your email.

Your next rep is waiting.

Today’s drill is up, and every past drill is open.
